Dr. Seuss (Theodor Seuss Geisel) would have been 113 today. Born and raised in Springfield Massachusetts, which is about 1 hour from where I live. He became a very well know author of children’s books.
His books are a huge hit in our house and we have an entire shelf full of Dr. Seuss books. Some of the most famous titles include:
The Cat In The Hat, Green Eggs And Ham, One Fish -Two Fish -Red Fish -Blue Fish, and Fox In Socks.
My boys favorite for the longest time was Wacky Wednesday. Our copy is a little tattered and a few torn pages but that only shows the hours of fun we have spent reading it (over and over and over and over and over again).
Cute little fact; some Dr. Seuss books have a picture of him on the back with some facts about him. My son Travis would always look at the picture and call him Papa. I guess the glasses and full head of gray hair made him appear to be Papa to him. So cute!
I have recently just heard of a really cute idea that a father did for his daughter. Something I would love to copy. He bought a copy of
Oh, The Places You Will Go and had every one of her teachers from kindergarten to her senior year sign it, without her knowing. When it came to be graduation day he gave it to her as a gift. So amazingly thoughtful! Hopefully I will remember every year, and even more importantly, the teachers have something nice to say about my two crazy boys!
So on March 2nd take a little moment out of your busy life and remember a man who has brought such joy and laughter to so many children. Without him life would be a little less fun!
There are so many fun, safe, kid friendly sites, that feature Dr. Seuss. One of my favorites is this one: http://www.seussville.com/index.php
They offer fun games and activities. As well as an area to learn about the Dr. Seuss characters and get familiar with any of his books he has written.
